If you’ve ever put a standard infrared heater in a damp area or a place with heavy humidity, you know the drill. They burn out. Fast. Water sneaks into the terminals, causes a short, and before you know it, your heating element is toast. It’s frustrating, and frankly, it’s a waste of money. We decided to fix this by using IP44-rated enclosures—basically, a shell that actually keeps out splashes and fog. What does IP44 actually do? In plain English, it means the unit can handle solid bits (bigger than 1mm) and, more importantly, water splashing at it from any angle. We don’t just slap a cover on it. We seal the junction boxes and use gaskets to stop moisture from creeping into the electrical guts. This is huge because it stops that annoying “creepage” effect. You know, when salt or minerals from the fog build up on the terminals and create a path for electricity to jump? That’s how you get arc flashes and blown fuses. We just stop that from happening. Dealing with the “Sweat” Fog is a sneaky beast. It’s not just about water coming from the outside; it’s about the temperature swing. When the heater clicks off and cools down quickly, the housing can actually “sweat” on the inside. To fight this, we use hydrophobic coatings and smart venting. It lets the unit breathe so moisture doesn’t get trapped, but it keeps the liquid water out. Your wiring stays bone-dry. The Trade-offs (Because nothing is perfect) Here is the honest part: adding these seals and waterproof housings makes the heater a bit bulkier. You can’t jam them together as tightly as those open-frame models. Just keep that in mind when you’re figuring out your mounting brackets—give them a little breathing room. Also, since the IP44 shell is enclosed, it can trap some heat around the wires. To make sure nothing melts under the pressure, we use high-temperature cables. If you’re dealing with steam or spray, just use these. You’ll spend way less time dealing with maintenance calls and way more time actually enjoying the heat.
