
Why you can’t cut corners with quartz tubes in the bathroom
When you’re picking out an infrared wall heater for a bathroom, you’re basically designing for a war zone. You’ve got steam everywhere and temperatures that swing wildly in seconds. Here’s the problem: a lot of cheap heaters use basic quartz glass. Imagine a tube glowing at 600°C. Now imagine a single, stray drop of cold shower water hitting it.Crack. That’s thermal shock. The glass splits, the filament dies, and in the worst cases, the whole thing just shatters. Not exactly the vibe you want while you’re stepping out of the shower.
The “Explosion-Proof” part
We use specialized explosion-proof quartz glass because, frankly, safety shouldn’t be a gamble. These tubes are treated to handle those brutal temperature jumps without flinching. But we also plan for the “what if.” Even if the glass does crack, the design keeps it from flying apart into dangerous shards. We usually add a protective mesh or a reinforced sleeve to keep everything contained. It’s that final safety net that lets you actually relax.
How the heat actually works
These shortwave infrared lamps are fast. Really fast. They don’t waste time trying to warm up all the air in the room—they go straight for your skin. We use high-purity quartz to make sure as much heat as possible gets through. You get a ton of warmth from a tiny little lamp, which is why they get so hot so quickly.
The tricky part: Engineering
Now, there’s a catch. High-wattage lamps put out a massive amount of heat, and they need room to breathe. If you cram these into a tight wall box without enough airflow, you’re asking for trouble. You’ll end up overheating the internal wiring or melting your connectors. It’s all about finding that sweet spot between how much power you want and how well the housing can vent that heat. One last tip: don’t use standard PVC cables. They’ll get cooked near the lamp head. Stick with high-temperature rated wiring and ceramic insulators. It keeps the current steady and stops the housing from becoming an oven.
